St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The flu season in Minnesota is finally dying down.

A weekly update issued by the Minnesota Department of Health during the influenza season indicates the overall rating of flu activity statewide dropped from “local” to “sporadic” last week. It hasn’t been rated that low since around the Thanksgiving holiday last November.

The health department received only 11 reports of flu-related hospitalizations, while only two schools reported probable outbreaks and three long-term care facilities had confirmed influenza outbreaks last week.

It appears the flu season in peaked late February. Since the start of the season, the deaths of two children have been blamed on the flu and there have been over 3800 flu related hospitalizations. There have been 384 school outbreaks and 175 involving nursing homes and other long-term care centers.
