There are many signs that let us know the warm weather season is officially on its way out, but here might be the final sign you know fall is here in southeast Minnesota.

Sure, the calendar says it's mid-October. Sure, the autumnal equinox (that's the scientific term for fall, don'tcha know) came and went about a month ago. Sure, the leaves are turning scenic shades of red, orange and gold on their journey to the ground. And, sure, there's beginning to be some frost on the pumpkin in the morning.

Yeah, those surely are all signs of fall here in southeast Minnesota. But there is one telltale sign, perhaps above all others, that shows the warm weather season has finally left the friendly confines of the Med City.

And, if your travels earlier this week happened to take you near the fountain on the Peace Plaza, just in front of the Chateau Theatre, you might have noticed the same thing that Stephen Lehmkhule, Chancellor of the University of Minnesota – Rochester, did: That the Peace Plaza fountain has been drained, turned off and readied for another long, Minnesota winter. Sigh.

The UMR Chancellor tweeted a picture of this sure sign that the wam-weather season has officially left us late Monday...
