We were talking yesterday about how the song Jingle Bells was actually first written about Thanksgiving. It got me thinking about just how many songs solely about Thanksgiving are actually still out there. I found four that seem to be most popular.

4. Adam Sandler's 'The Thanksgiving Song'  -- This is a throwback to his days on Saturday Night Live in the early 90's. While the song first debuted on SNL in 1992, this version is is a live performance from 1993. (I remember laughing out loud at this while I was in college; I'm not quite sure it's quite as funny these days, but here it is, anyway...)

3. Johnny Cash 'Thanksgiving Prayer' -- I'm not sure what the best part of this song is-- the fact that it's by the Man in Black, or that it appeared in a 1994 episode of 'Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman' on CBS. Either way, check out both Johnny and his wife, June Carter, in this clip!

2. Mary Chapin Carpenter's 'Thanksgiving Song' -- Seeing as MCC was just here in the Med City earlier this fall and performed a very cool acoustic show at Mayo Civic Center, here's a heartfelt song (as all her songs are) taken from her 2008 album, 'Come Darkness, Come Light: 12 Songs of Christmas'.

1. Over the River and Through the Woods -- Sure, it's these days known more so as a children's song (I remember my elementary music teacher, Mr. Grade, having us sing this one when I was in third grade), but it is one of the few true Thanksgiving songs out there. It was originally written by Lydia Marie Child in 1844, about the ride to her grandparent's house on Thanksgiving Day. Sing along if you remember the words...
