Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It was a pain in the rear for thousands of motorists for a few months but for many, the aggravation was worth it.

The Minnesota Dept of Transportation says the resurfacing project of northbound Highway 52 between Rochester and Cannon Falls that began in May has been completed.

The $7-million project affected traffic at times due to lane and speed restrictions but no major incidents were reported during the three months of work.

MNDOT says besides the resurfacing, the project also involved several safety improvements and enhancements, including the lengthening of 19 turn lanes which gave motorists a safer distance to slow before turning off the highway. A cable median barrier was also installed between Pine Island and Zumbrota to help reduce cross-median head-on crashes.

MNDOT says the southbound lanes south of Cannon Falls are scheduled for resurfacing next year.
