The Top Five Reasons Minnesotans Do Winter Better Than Everyone Else

What's in your car? Probably extra gloves, a set of jumper cables, a snow shovel and maybe even whole winter survival kit. And our garages are filled with snow shovels, snow blowers and ice and sand too, for whatever Old Man Winter throws at us.

Whether it's sledding (or sliding, as my native Minnesotan wife says), snow shoeing, ice skating, or enjoying Rochester's WinterFest of SocialICE, we know how to  make Winter fun.

Sure, we might get nearly a foot of snow or more in a 24-hour period. Now anywhere else, that would grind everything to a halt. But not here in Minnesota! We just fire up the snowmobile (or our 4-wheel drive SUVs or pick-ups) and head on out in the winter wonderland!

Just because our 10,000 Lakes might be frozen over, that doesn't mean we can't still use them, right? Whether it's skating, playing hockey or merely drilling a hole in the ice and dropping a line (and waiting for the tip-ups), we in Minnesota get the most our lakes no matter how cold it might be outside!

Thanks to the many skyways (and the subway level that connects most of the Mayo Clinc buildings downtown) that span across our downtown streets, you can pretty much navigate your way through miles and miles of space without having to set foot outside!
