When we first got snow back on November 11th, I was thinking we were on our way to another long, cold winter. At least, though, it most likely meant we'd have a white Christmas, wouldn't we? Well, maybe not. Unless it snows soon, we're might be out of luck. But do you know when was the last time Rochester had snow for Thanksgiving but then went on to have a brown Christmas?

It's been so foggy and dark lately, our Christmas lights-- which are set to come on at dusk-- have been turning on around noon each day.

According to the National Weather Service office in La Crosse, the last time we had at least an inch of snow for Thanksgiving but a brown Christmas was 28 years ago, in 1986. That year, we had around 2-inches of snow for Thanksgiving, but, much like this year, things melted in early December, giving us a brown, dreary Christmas. Before that, you have to go back 65 years-- to the Thanksgiving/Christmas season of 1949-- when there was again around 2 inches of snow on the ground in late November, but yet less than an inch for Christmas.

I hope we get a little snow sometime this week. If we didn't already have Christmas to look forward to this week, things would sure be depressing. Plus, this gloomy, non-Christmas-y weather has even affected our Christmas lights. It's been so foggy and dark even during the day that the sensor on the lights has turned them on around noon-- and they're supposed to only come on when it's dark enough at dusk! Is anybody else dreaming of a white Christmas?
