Thomas Rhett thinks what Taylor Swift is doing is great. The "Life Changes" singer stopped short of saying he endorses her message, but did say he supports the pop singer's right to use her platform for a cause.

"I think it’s great that she’s using her platform to stand up for something she believes in," Rhett told People before the 2018 AMAs on Tuesday (Oct. 9) in Los Angeles.

"Whatever town you’re in, voting wise, that can change your way of life or your family’s way of life ... It’s very important to register to vote," he adds.

What Did Taylor Swift Say?

On Sunday, Swift took to Instagram to encourage fans to register to vote and to endorse two Tennessee democrats in the race for U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. She spoke to her commitment to issues of equality for all people in explaining why she prefers Phil Bredesen of Marsha Blackburn.

Rhett did not get political on the AMAs red carpet, only saying saying he too believes in the power of a single vote. "Taylor’s such a force, and whatever she says, a lot of people listen to her," he says.

Rhett was nominated in two categories at the 2018 AMAs, but did not win. Kane Brown was country music's big winner with three awards.
