Have you had to turn the furnace on yet this season? We did the other night. The beginning of the heating season is a good time to change your furnace filter, too.

Ever notice, after your furnace has been off for the summer, you always get that 'funky burnt smell' when it starts up?
We always run the fan on 'ON' instead of just 'AUTO', so the upstairs and downstairs air get circulated. When it runs all the time, dust gets circulated and caught in the filter.
Experts recommend to change the furnace filter at least once every 4 to 6 weeks during heating season and for air conditioning once a month. In the winter you can use any kind for heat EZ flow, high efficiency or pleated (accordion type) In the summer for air conditioning they recommend EZ flow or flat filters.

As you can see in the picture it was time to change the filter. To change yours, make sure you turn your thermostat to 'OFF'. That way, the fan stops. -Alan
