I used to work as a licensed explosives technician for an explosives company years ago. We did everything from rock quarries to road cuts to underground mining projects. I learned everything on the job. It was a BLAST! Ha, ha!

Every time I see an implosion, I'm still amazed. Most of them are contained explosions that take out the first 1-2 floor supports. Gravity will do the rest. It's like someone kicking the legs out from under you.

Some explosions will have different charges at different locations to make the building "fold up". Some just go straight down. There's really an art to it.

We were in Las Vegas recently and found out that the Riviera Hotel and Casino will be the next Vegas landmark to drop. They close May 4th and the building will drop in early August.

Take a look at the "Top 10 Las Vegas Casino Implosions" that a guy named Richard Dargan has put together. It includes the Sands, Frontier, Stardust, Hacienda, Aladdin, Landmark, Castaways, Bourbon Street, Boardwalk and the Dunes. - Alan
