A driver's ed teacher I had back in high school used to say, "I'm not worried about your driving-- it's the other guy out there I worry about," when he'd urge us to be alert behind the wheel. And he's right-- you never know what's going to happen, as the Minnesota State Patrol also recently pointed out.

The Patrol posted this picture earlier this week of a trailer hitch the came off a truck, bounced along the pavement and then crashed into another car's windshield. According to BringMeTheNews, "The incident happened on Highway 12, about 35 miles west of Minneapolis near Montrose, the State Patrol said on Facebook Monday."

The story went on to say, "'The State Patrol says it’s important for drivers to pay attention, noting the “best defense when encountering an unusual event while driving is being attentive and scanning the entire roadway ahead of you.' Officials are also reminding motorists to check that all cargo – including spare tires, toppers and cargo carriers – are checked regularly to make sure they’re secure."

Yikes. Can you imagine seeing that trailer hitch fall off the truck, bounce on the road, and then crash into your windshield? That had to be one scary ride. I've had rocks fly off trucks I've been travelling behind, but fortunately, they've never been big enough to cause my windshield to shatter. I'm glad they're weren't any injuries. But I'll bet the driver may have needed a new pair of pants...
