The intensive training regime I've put into place to get me into shape and finally ready to tackle this Saturday's Insane Inflatable 5K has now entered its final phase.

As we get ready to come down the home stretch, just what am I doing? Well, I'll tell you what I'm not doing: A lot of running outside. Last year, before I did the Bacon Chase 5K in Minneapolis, I had been doing a lot of running on the treadmill. I thought I should get out and pound the pavement once or twice before then. Big mistake. I don't know why, but I can run forever on the treadmill and not get sore. But the first time each year I run outside, my legs end up being really sore for several days afterward-- so sore, in fact, it was painful to even walk down stairs, sit down or stand up. (Yes, I'm a 'wuss bag,' to quote TV's 'The Goldbergs')

So, with the 5K being THIS SATURDAY, I'm thinking I might hit the trail one last time tomorrow, and call that good. If I run 3 miles on Wednesday, my legs should be fully healed by the time the 5K rolls around on Saturday. (Here's a look at some of the other training my co-worker, Scotty Matthews and I did a few weeks ago...)
