Dodge Center, MN (KROC AM News) -  An area student is spending the weekend behind bars after admitting making a school-related threat.

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose says Triton School officials became aware of the threat Saturday morning after another student saw the social media post warning students not to come to school on Monday. That student’s parents contacted the school and Dodge County investigators became involved.

The student who posted the threat was located around 12:45 PM Saturday.

Rose says the student “admitted to posting the threat but indicated it was not a serious threat.” Rose says the student was arrested and transported to the juvenile holding facility in Rochester and will make a first court appearance Monday on charges to be determined by the Dodge County Attorney’s Office.

Rose says parents of Triton students have been notified of the threat.

He adds, “We take every threat like this seriously, and applaud those involved in reporting these threats. This incident serves as an important reminder for parents to talk to their kids about the seriousness of making threats like this. It also an important reminder to always report threats or behavior like this to the Sheriff’s Office as soon as you see or hear them.”
