Vikings to Keep Training Camp in Mankato

While the Minnesota Vikings will be moving into their brand new stadium next season, the team announced Wednesday that when it comes to training camp, they're not going anywhere -- at least for the next three years.

According to BringMeTheNews.com, the Vikings have signed a three-year contract agreement to continue to hold their annual summer training camp at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The story said both the team and the University were glad to have the new deal inked. "'We’re very happy to announce a three-year extension to host the Minnesota Vikings training camp,' said Dr. Richard Davenport, president of the university, according to KTOE. 'It’s been wonderful to celebrate 50 years of Vikings training camp on our campus this summer, and we look forward to the Vikings being here during the University’s 150th year anniversary celebration.'”

The story went on to say the team paid the University nearly $93,000 to hold camp at its location this year, with a similar agreement in place for the next three years. The story also said the Vikings were glad to keep the camp in the southern Minnesota city.

"'Vikings training camp is a great tradition for the team and our fans, and we look forward to this continued partnership with both the university and the City of Mankato,' Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf said."

The team has held its training camps in Mankato for 50 years. Only the Green Bay Packers, who've held camp at St. Norbert's College in DePere, Wis. for 58 years, have trained in the same location longer than the Vikings.
