Today is the 140th annual "Gopher Count" in Viola. Did you know that this is the 2nd longest running annual event in America? It's just a couple of weeks behind the Kentucky Derby.

It all started years ago, when the county decided to give a bounty for gophers feet. There are different prices for a 'streaky' gopher, compared the a 'pocket' gopher. The bounty for a pocket gopher is $2.00 and the bounty for a streaky gopher is .50 cents.

Events today include a parade this morning at 10am. And the floats actually go around TWICE!

There's a soap box derby at 11:30am, fun and games for all ages at 2pm and a FREE street dance tonight with the band Trouble Shooter, tonight at 8:30.

Enjoy and thanks for taking us along, from all of here at today's best country, Quick Country 96.5! - Alan
