Minnesota is getting ready to welcome Major League Soccer to the state, or at least that's what we've been thinking. The plan for months has been that the former Minnesota Stars, currently Minnesota United FC, would be Major League Soccer's newest expansion team. That is supposed to be the plan anyway, but recent events have brought that into question.

Ownership was given a deadline by MLS for a proposal on a stadium but that date is long gone and there has still been no proposal. That means that technically MLS could revoke Minnesota United FC's bid for a soccer team. But, so far they have not done so.

It has been reported that the Wilf family, owners of the Minnesota Vikings, would be interested in bringing an MLS team to Minneapolis if current ownership cannot get the job done. It looks right now that either Blaine or St. Paul have the advantage to build the new stadium, but Minneapolis could sneak their way in and steal the club, if they are able to find a strong location.

It may be way be too early to tell where MLS and the club's ownership are in negotiations but it is very possible that Minnesota United FC is on thin ice, and are very much in danger of losing their chance to bring an MLS team to Minnesota.
