J.C. Penney made the announcement Friday morning that it was set to close more than 100 stores across the country. Is the Rochester location one of them?

Well, the short answer is that we don't know just yet. According to a release from company officials, the company will announce which store locations (including two distribution facilities) are closing sometime in mid-March.

It's all part of an effort to shore up the company's finances. I can't blame them for that, of course, but I hope the Rochester J.C. Penney location at Apache Mall doesn't close. It's probably more nostalgia than anything else, but I always get a little sad when those big box stores I grew up with close their doors.

The Rochester Sears store closed several years ago. And between Sears and J.C. Penney, those were pretty much the only two stores we shopped at for clothes when I was a kid. (Of course, we went to the Sears and Penney's locations at the Wausau Center Mall back in my hometown in central Wisconsin.)

I get the challenges those legacy-type stores are up against, though. Outside of a Minnesota Twins shirt I bought at the Rochester J.C. Penney about five years ago, I can't remember the last time I shopped there.

Still, I hope it doesn't close. Fingers crossed, Rochester!
