UPDATED: Winter Storm Headed This Way

Rochester MN (KROC AM News) - The first major winter storm of the season to threaten Rochester could dump several inches of snow across southeast Minnesota by Tuesday.  

This is the latest information from the National Weather Service:

A significant winter storm will move across the region Monday and Monday night, with accumulating snow, sleet, and freezing rain all possible. Snow looks to be the predominant precipitation type, with 6 to 10 inches possible from Iowa, through southern Minnesota, and into northern Wisconsin. To the southeast, a wintry mix is more likely with some icing possible.

There will be significant impacts to travel, including the evening commute. Road conditions will deteriorate quickly with 1 inch per hour snowfall rates and possible icing. If traveling prepare for winter driving conditions.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Monday and Monday Night.

• What: Winter Storm Watch for snow. Sleet, and freezing rain also possible (mainly south). Windy conditions also expected.
• Where: regionwide
• When: precipitation spreads in from south to north Monday, ends early Tuesday morning.
• Amounts: 4-8" of snow and sleet. Ice accumulations around 1/10" (south).
• Strong and gusty northeast winds also expected
• Impacts: could be significant with hazardous travel and possible downed branches and power lines if heavy icing occurs.
