Hackers are using trusted websites that you use daily to attack you. Even large, trusted sites can infect your computer and you WILL lose your precious pictures and important data.

How does it happen? According to Neal White, computer expert at Lifetime Computers in Rochester, and Dave Seavey, computer specialist in Rochester, "When typing in a web address, make sure you don't type (as an example) Walmart.om leaving out the c in .com by accident."

Many sites ending in .om have sprung up with names of popular .com sites, and they often have popups that people have clicked on, and malicious software was installed in their machines.

.om is an extension for the country Oman, and there are legitimate sites with the extension. However, there are far more malicious sites than there are legitimate sites. There is indeed a fake Walmart site with the extension .om

For a list of the known malicious sites, click on this link: VIRUS. You'll be surprised by the names of companies that come up. None of the companies are using the extension; a third party has used the company name to fool people into thinking the site is legitimate.

A simple typo can spell disaster for your computer, so if you accidentally end up on a .om site, just exit out of it. Don't click on anything in that site, including any popups.

In case you do, hit 'Control, Alt Delete', then 'start task manager'. Click on the name of the virus and hit delete.
