The Interwebs were abuzz yesterday with the story of how the parents of a 5-year-old boy in Ireland were recently sent a 'no show' invoice that covered his portion of the cost of a friend's birthday party he wasn't able to attend, after he originally said he would.

KARE-11 in Minneapolis has the whole story HERE. But it basically centers on how the boy in question, Alex Nash, RSVP'd that he would attend his friend's birthday party. They were apparently going snowboarding at the Plymouth Ski Slope and Snowboard Centre, so the birthday boy's mom, Julie Lawrence, purchased the needed number of lift tickets, snacks, etc.

Well, it turns out Alex wasn't able to make it to the party afterall-- his grandparents were in town, so he spent the day with them. Alex's mom says she didn't have any contact information to let the Lawrence's know Alex wouldn't be attending. (The Lawrences, though, say all the information was on the original invitiation.)

Long story longer, the Lawrence's sent the Nash's an invoice for Alex's cost of the birthday party-- the lift ticket, some snacks, etc. It's about $24 US dollars. The Lawrence's say they're prepared to take the Nash's to court to recover the money. The Nashes, meanwhile, say it's not about the money-- but about the way the Lawrence's went about the whole thing-- and won't give them a penny.

Sheesh! I'm not a parent, but it seems like a whole lot of trouble for only $24. What's your take on it?
