You Won't Be Able to Buy Candy Sweethearts for Valentine's Day

They've been a Valentine's Day staple for as long as I can remember, but you won't be seeing them on stores shelves this year. That's the bad news. The good news, they will come back at some point. Here's why!

According to WCCO, the New England Confectionary Co. (NECCO), which made Sweethearts for more than 100 years, went bankrupt last year. With it went several treats including the traditional heart-shaped candies with messages of love stamped on them.

There is a silver lining - the candies will be back. According to CandyStore.com, Spangler Candy Co. took over NECCO in September and has full intention of making America's favorite Valentines Day candy again. They ensure you'll see them on shelves again in 2020. The company just didn't have the time to produce the massive amount of candies that sell each year. NECCO produced 8 billion sweethearts annually.
