Alexis Bleidel Says a Third ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Movie Is In the Works
Time to expand your closet to include a third set of Pants — the beloved Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise might soon turn into a trilogy, if star Alexis Bledel's interview on The Tonight Show Thursday (April 26) is any indication.
Bledel, who starred with America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Amber Tamblyn in the 2005 and 2008 films, said the ladies have remained close friends over the years, and would love the opportunity to connect with audiences once again.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, based on the novel by Ann Brashares, follows a group of four friends who go their different ways after school. Across their separate journeys, they send a single pair of jeans back and forth to each other — somehow, the garment fits them all perfectly.
“We don’t get to see each other a lot because everybody’s work or family and everything, but when everybody is in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie and I hope it comes together. It would be so great,” Bledel told host Jimmy Fallon.
Lively told SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio host Jess Cagle in July 2016 that she'd be down for a reunion, too, assuming that a third story would properly honor what had come before it.
"Well the four of us are still best friends, and to be able to create something together again has always been a dream of ours. But it would have to be something that really made sense. If you wait this long to do a third movie, it needs to honor the story and the legacy,” she said.
The cast also reunited in January to celebrate America Ferrera's pregnancy.
