La Crosse, WI (KROC-AM News) -  A La Crosse man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend earlier this summer. According to a news release issued by La Crosse Police, 38-year-old Erik Sackett was being held on an unrelated probation violation when the murder count was filed today in La Crosse County Court.

He is accused of killing 35-year-old Erin Somvilai and dumping her body, weighed down with cement blocks, in a lake about 25-miles southeast of La Crosse. The La Crosse woman was reported missing on June 4th and a man fishing on Runge Hollow Lake on June 17th.

La Crosse Police say information gathered by investigators, and inaccuracies in statements Sackett made to investigators led them to focus on him as the suspect in the woman’s death.
