Carrie Underwood Sizzles With ‘Southbound’ on 2019 ‘American Idol’ Finale
Carrie Underwood returned to the stage of American Idol on Sunday night (May 19) to perform her latest single, "Southbound," giving a playful performance as part of an all-star lineup.
Underwood entered the stage dramatically on a riser with pyrotechnics blazing in the background. Clad in a sparkly dress that was slit high to show off her famous legs, she delivered a fun performance, teasing the camera and the audience as she sang.
Underwood, of course, is no stranger to the Idol stage. She launched her career by winning the show's fourth season in 2005.
"Southbound" is Underwood's third single from her current album, Cry Pretty, and it's quite a change of pace from her previous two singles, "Cry Pretty" and "Love Wins," both of which carried serious messages. "Southbound" is a slice of pure good-time summertime fun. Underwood has just embarked on her 2019 Cry Pretty Tour 360.

The American Idol 2019 season finale also included a special appearance from last year's champion, Maddie Poppe.
Idol judge Luke Bryan also performed on the finale, along with Kane Brown, Dan + Shay and Jon Pardi.
ABC announced on May 14 that American Idol will return for another new season in the fall. At a recent press roundtable in Nashville, Bryan said he believes he will return for the new season along with fellow judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie."
