Couple’s Controversial Way of Tipping Has Gone Viral
A couple posted their tipping style on Facebook, and people are NOT happy about it. As a former server, this story makes my blood boil.
Someone on Twitter posted a screenshot of a post talking about the incident. In the post it says, "You put 5 singles out on the table at the beginning of dinner for the waiter to see (don't say anything to them about it). If they mess up, you take a dollar away. At the end of dinner, how much is left, is their tip."
Where do I even begin?
1. I don't know how much their meal was, so if that $5 could have been considered a major slap in the face. 20% people!! I get it, there are times that you DON'T want to tip. I had a server completely forget to put in my son's food. He brought our food over, and then didn't come back. We had to track down a manager to get his food. The server didn't even notice! So, yes, just because I was a waitress, doesn't mean I'm blind to that bad service out there - I actually notice it a LOT more now. BUT, I also know that these people are there for a reason - to take care of their family, pay for school or whatever it may be, and they make minimum wage. If you don't want to tip, go to McDonalds!
2. I was a server the majority of my life. We ALL have bad days. We already know when we screw up - we don't need YOU reminding us via your horse-crap tip!
3. Tipping is awkward. You are expected to give someone additional money to make up for the money they don't get on their paycheck. Again, I get it, BUT don't make it more awkward with this d-bag move.
Restaurants to Eliminate Tipping? Do you Agree?
Do you agree that restaurants should do away with tipping all together?
