One of the best things about our non-winter seasons here in Minnesota is having a bonfire. Whether it's in the heart of summer or even in the fall, I love the smell of a real wood fire. But, apparently, some folks here in Minnesota don't enjoy it all that much -- at least, not in their neighborhood.

The other night, my wife and I noticed the distinct smell of a lovely bonfire wafting through our living room. We had the windows and patio doors open, and while it's not quite my favorite smell (that belongs to the intoxicating aroma of one of our neighbors grilling a big, thick t-bone steak) it is still one of my favorite scents, no matter which season it is. Even though we weren't sitting around it, it reminded me of all the great times we've spent in front of a fire. So I don't mind the smell of a bonfire wafting through our neighborhood at all.

My brother, though, is another story. He posted on Facebook earlier this year how, seeing as he lives in the Twin Cities suburb of St. Louis Park, he was tired of always smelling a bonfire in his neighborhood. He said something to the effect that if you want to build a fire, you should head up north or to a park -- but not constantly subject everybody else in your neighborhood to the smell of your bonfire.

Like I said, though, I don't mind. But what do you think? Do you like the smell of a bonfire in your neighborhood -- even if you're not having one yourself?
