Last night I-35 Northbound in Scott County was closed for an extended period of time due to a fatal crash between a van and semi. The crash occurred at 260th Street and I-35 in New Market Township. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, a 2000 Ford Econoline van, driven by 39-year-old Mohammed Adam of Lexington, Nebraska, and traveling southbound in the right lane on I-35.



At the same time a Freightliner, driven by 42-year-old Leonid Mashtalyar of Campobello, SC, was traveling southbound in the left lane of I-35.

The State Patrol reported that the Ford Econoline van then passed the Freightliner on the right and attempted to merge left. As the Ford Econoline merged it clipped the front corner of the Freightliner, causing the van to slide to the left and perpendicular to the front end of the Freightliner.

The Ford Econoline ended up rolling and came to a rest on its roof in the median.

Adam was declared deceased on the scene. Road conditions at the time of the crash were reported to be dry.

Also responding to the crash with the Minnesota State Patrol were the Scott County Sheriff's Office, Elko New Market Police Department, and the Elko New Market Fire Department.
