Hopkins, MN (KROC-AM News) - A specialized search team has begun sifting through the rubble of what was a single-family home in the Twin Cities suburb of Hopkins.

The search is focused on determining whether anyone was inside the house when it was leveled by an explosion around 10 o'clock this morning. The Hopkins Police Department reported that Hopkins firefighters and police officers responded to the property at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Hopkins Fire Chief Dale Specken told reporters the first firefighters to arrive at the scene found in the home had completely collapsed and a fire had fully involved the structure, "It was a pretty violent explosion. As you can see, there is a pretty good debris field here." He indicated the fire was extinguished fairly quickly and the natural gas service to the property has been turned off.

As for possible victims, Chief Specken said he was told an elderly couple lived in the home. He says investigators will need to gain access to the wreckage of the house to determine the cause of the explosion.
