It might be a little early for a White Christmas, but Rochester could see the first snow of the season this weekend.

While some Minnesotans are cheering on this mild weather we've been having this fall, I've gotta say I'm in the camp that's ready for some snow. This is the time of year it SHOULD snow, right? It's December in Minnesota-- we need some white stuff to help us get in the holiday spirit! (And we'd all rather have snow NOW instead of in April, right?)

We're actually a bit behind the curve this year when it comes to seeing some snowflakes. The National Weather Service (NWS) says our first snowfall in Rochester usually happens in October. But according to several different sources, we could make that up this weekend, as a storm system headed to the Land of 10,000 Lakes COULD force a few flakes our way this weekend, especially late on Sunday.

As of Wednesday, the official NWS forecast for our neck of the woods is just calling for cloudy skies Sunday night with a chance of a few flurries. But according to the latest 'Couch Cast' from former ABC-6 meteorologist Cindy Morgan, that storm system COULD shift south and give us a better chance for a few inches of snow Sunday night.

That view is also shared by BringMeTheNews meteorologist Tom Novak, who notes that the jet stream will change enough by Sunday night to cause some areas of Minnesota and Wisconsin to get some 'significant snow' (though right now, he suspects that might be the case for areas well north of Rochester with southeast Minnesota getting less.)

All three weather experts stressed that it's still a bit too early to accurately determine just HOW much snow we could get Sunday night. But it's a distinct possibility a few flakes could be flying in our area this weekend.
