Richfield, MN (KROC AM News) - A funeral was held Wednesday for the teenager who was shot and killed outside a Richfield school last week.

Many of those at the service for 15-year-old Jahmari Rice were fellow students at South Education Center.

Rice and another student were shot around noon on Feb. 1st. Rice died a short while later and the other student remains in the hospital. The 17-year-old was initially listed in critical condition. A fundraiser has been started for the victim. A third student who was with the victims was not hit.

Murder and attempted murder charges have been filed against two other students, who were arrested the same day. Police say the shooting took place during a confrontation between the victims and suspects.

According to the county attorney’s report:

Officers learned from the third male victim that a confrontation with Solis and Valdez-Alvarez, and Rice, he and the 17-year-old male victim, occurred in the school parking lot where Solis was punched once by the 17-year-old victim, the complaint continues.

In return, Valdez-Alvarez fired numerous shots at the three male victims. After he shot at the victims, Solis and Valdez-Alvarez ran to their SUV, where they continued to fire shots once they got inside the vehicle. Eventually, Valdez-Alvarez drove off with Solis in the passenger’s seat, the complaint says.
