Get Married for Free in Olmsted County This Valentine’s Day
If you're looking to tie the knot, and you want to do it for free--soon-- Olmsted County has an offer you might want to check out!
Planning a wedding can take a lot of time, a lot of planning and a lot of money. (My wife and I got married on the beach at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica where they did all the work for us-- and it STILL seemed like there were a lot of details!) But if you're ready to tie the knot quickly-- like, next Friday, maybe-- you might want to head down to Government Center here in Rochester and have an Olmsted County District Court judge perform your wedding... for free!
That's right, according to this Post-Bulletin story, three of Olmsted County's District Judges (that'd be judges Jacob Allen, Lisa Hayne and Christina Stevens, btw) will be performing wedding ceremonies for free during their lunch hours on Valentine's Day, Friday, February 14th.
Don't have anybody available to serve as your maid of honor or best man? No worries-- Olmsted County even has witnesses available too. And, yes, it's free. Here's the thing, though: They're only doing 15 ceremonies, so if you're interested, the PB story says you need to contact Olmsted County District Court Administrator Ann Basta (her number is 507.206.2385) to see if there are any openings still available.
Olmsted County isn't the only county in Minnesota to offer free weddings on Valentine's Day, though. This BringMeTheNews story says Hennepin County married 19 couples for free over the lunch hour on Valentine's Day last year, and is doing the same thing again this year.
