It Could be a Bad Year for Ticks
St. Paul, MN (Learfield Wire Services/TTWN Media Networks) -- Experts say the tick season is just getting started in Minnesota, which brings a higher risk of tick bites that can cause things like Lyme disease.
Dave Neitzel of the state Health Department says the mild winter brought a larger number of black legged adult ticks to the Minnesota outdoors -- and it might be a good idea for folks to start using repellents with DEET. And if you walk in the woods, Neitzel suggests checking for ticks right after your walk -- and take a shower right then to prevent tick bites and the diseases they carry.
He says the recent cold and snow won't have much of an impact in slowing the season down.
