In what was perhaps the area's worst-kept secret ever, the Minnesota Lynx confirmed Monday morning that they are, in fact, going to play a preseason game here in Rochester at Mayo Civic Center.

I refer to Monday morning's announcement as the worst-kept secret ever, only because about the same time last weekend that both Mayo Clinic and the Minnesota Lynx had teased a "major announcement" that would be unveiled at Monday morning's press conference, Ticketmaster, had already listed the game on its website, and had said tickets would be on sale earlier on Monday.

Never mind the news leaking out online earlier than intended, it's still pretty cool to have the Lynx in town for a game-- even if its only a preseason contest. This time, Minnesota is set to suit up against the Washington Mystics for a preseason tilt at Mayo Civic Center on May 8th. Timberwolves and Lynx Team President Chris Wright said, 'With the Lynx coming off their 2015 WNBA Championship, it's a great opportunity to give our fans in Southern Minnesota a chance to see our phenomenal product as well as showcase our great partnership with Mayo Clinic,'" according to a press release in a KARE 11 story.

You have to go back 13 years, to 2003, to find when Lynx last played here in Rochester, according to the Mayo Civic Center website. This year's game will mark the third time the Lynx will suit up here in the Med City. It is the first game, though, "since announcing a multi-year marquee partnership with Mayo Clinic prior to the 2014 season. The Lynx also hosted the Portland Fire on May 26, 2000 at Mayo Civic Center," the Civic Center website continued.

Tickets for the May 8 game (which is also Mother's Day) in Rochester are now on sale through the Mayo Civic Center Box Office and on Lynxbasketball.com.
