Mounds View, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in a northern Twin Cities suburb are investigating the deaths of two people discovered inside a home Sunday evening.

A statement issued by the Mounds View Police Department says officers were dispatched to conduct a welfare check shortly before 8 PM. When officers arrived at the residence, they reported seeing a person inside lying on the floor with signs of trauma.

Mounds View Police and the officers forced their way into the residence and found two people dead inside. It was later determined that both suffered from gunshot wounds and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation. Based on the current evidence, Mounds View Police do not believe there is a danger to the public.

The names of the two deceased individuals have not been released.
