
Utility Scam Warning Issued To Minnesota Residents
I don't remember a time in my life when I have heard about so many scams as recently. There are so many going around at any given time.
Of course, scams have evolved along with technology, which means more ways to scam and scams seeming real, even if they aren't.

I know I have almost been fooled by some scammers. It can be hard to tell when you get an email that seems legitimate. I even clicked on a phishing scam once recently.
Now, there's another scam Minnesotans need to be aware of. This scam was reported a few hours from Duluth but could definitely pop up here.
Utility Scam Reported In Rochester, Minnesota
Employees with Rochester Public Utilities took to social media on Tuesday (June 10th) to warn customers about a scam that has been reported with their likeness. This scam would definitely scare me if I got this call!

According to their post, scammers are posing as staff at Rochester Public Utilities and telling customers their utilities will be disconnected if they don't pay their outstanding bill. Obviously, this is a scam but at first glance, you might panic and pay up without thinking.
What To Do If You Get A Call OR Message Like This
If you get a call from these scammers, hang up and call Rochester Public Utilities immediately. It will be easy to see if your bill actually is not current.

This is a good rule of thumb with any scam, and I am sure a version of this scam will pop up here in the Northland soon. You can always hang up, take a deep breath and figure out if a scam is real or not.
