The End of the Penny Is Near

The U.S. Mint is expected to roll out its final batch of pennies sometime in 2026, signaling the official end of an American coin that’s been around since 1793. The decision follows a costly trend, it now takes nearly four cents to make a single penny. That’s why the U.S. Treasury Department announced on May 22, 2025, that it will stop production, with the last batch of penny blanks expected to run out early next year.
