MSP Airport Undergoing Largest Makeover Ever

The next time you take a flight out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s (MSP) Terminal 1 you'll likely see some big changes underway.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission and Delta Air Lines are teaming up for what they say is "the single largest interior renovation of concourses and passenger gate areas" of the terminal that originally opened in 1962.

The money for the project will come from the Airport Modernization Program which is funded with $182.5 million from the Metropolitan Airports Commission and another $60 million from Delta.

The 378,000 square feet renovation work will be split into three phases, work on concourses D and F is underway now, concourse C will undergo improvements starting in February, and the remaining concourses, A, B, and G will begin renovations in 2025.

MSP is the 19th busiest airport in North America, and for Delta, it is its second-busiest hub with over 330 daily flights, serving 7 out of every 10 Delta passengers. In 2022 the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport served 31,241,822 passengers.

Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission said in a press release, "We’re proud to work with and have the support of Delta to deliver an expansive interior makeover that will create an exceptional airport experience for Delta passengers as they make their way from security checkpoints to their gates."

Started in 1919 as Speedway Field the now Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport is not only an important hub for Delta Airlines, it is also the home to Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines. In 2022 MSP was ranked by J.D. Power after a survey of travelers the best airport in the United States and Canada.

The 15 Snowiest Winters On Record In Duluth History

Since the National Weather Service began keeping weather records in Duluth in the late 1800s, here are the 15 winters with the highest snowfall totals on historical record.

It is worth noting that the official records from 1941-today have been recorded at the area now known as the Duluth International Airport (away from the lake, on top of the hill). Before then, various locations closer to Lake Superior had been used for official weather recording data. For anyone that knows anything about how Lake Superior and the hill play a role in temperature and snow, you can see how this makes older records inherently different.

While these records note the "snowiest winters", they actually include all seasonal snowfall from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.
