3rd Guilty Plea Connected to Baseball Bat Attack in Hammond

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A third person has worked out a plea deal with Wabasha County prosecutors to settle charges stemming from a baseball bat attack in Hammond that left a man severely injured.

53-year-old Daniel Luhmann of Hammond today admitted to a gross misdemeanor third-degree riot charge in exchange for the dismissal of first and second-degree assault charges. He was originally charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, but those charges were dropped early in the case after it was determined that Luhmann was not responsible for the injuries inflicted on the victim.

42-year-old Joshua Daniel Larson of Millville earlier entered a guilty plea to a felony count of second-degree riot while armed with a dangerous weapon to avoid trial on attempted murder and felony assault charges. Larson was accused of repeatedly beating two men with a baseball bat outside a home in Hammond in September 2020. The victim suffered a broken jaw and cheekbone, a fractured eye socket, skull fractures, and a variety of scrapes and bruises. Larson is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Luhmann had been accused of being involved in a confrontation that led to the baseball bat attack. His plea agreement calls for a sentence of two years probation. 32-year-old Elliott Glamm earlier entered guilty pleas to third-degree assault charges for his involvement in the assaults and was given a sentence of three years probation.

The final defendant in the case is Larson's wife. 37-year-old Stephanie Larson is currently scheduled to stand trial on attempted murder and assault charges in July.
