St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota set a record for exports last year.

State officials say Minnesota exports of agricultural, mining, and manufacturing products in 2022 totaled $27 billion, topping the previous record set in 2021 by about 16%.

Exports from Minnesota to customers in Canada and Mexico increased 30% last year to nearly $12 billion. Canada remained the largest purchaser of Minnesota products with $9 billion worth of shipments in 2022. Shipments from Minnesota to our northern neighbor rose 36% in 2022.

Mexico remained the state's second-largest customer. The total value of products shipped to Mexico from Minnesota last year grew 14% to $2.8 billion, while shipments to China were unchanged from 2021 with a value of about $2.7 billion and exports to Japan fell 15% to $1.1 billion.

The fastest-growing market for Minnesota goods was found in the Netherlands. Exports to the northern European nation grew 44% last year to about $800 million, making the Netherlands the state's seventh largest customer.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development estimates exports of goods supported nearly 118,000 jobs in the state.
