Convicted Felon Accused of Brandishing Gun at Woman in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Convicted felon is in custody after being accused of brandishing a handgun while in a vehicle with a woman in Rochester over the weekend.
Rochester Police Sgt. Tony Teal said officers responded to a threat call around 2:30 Sunday morning northeast Rochester. A woman told officers a man who she recently met had threatened to blow up her vehicle and brandished a pistol after she refused to give him a ride to the Twin Cities.
The woman told police she was in a vehicle with 22-year-old Divaunte Young of Bayport, MN in the 700 block of North Broadway Ave. when Young asked for the ride to cities. She said Young first threatened to blow up the vehicle before brandishing what’s described as a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun.
Teal said the woman told officers she then drove the vehicle to a store which she entered then returned to the vehicle after Young continuously called and texted her. Teal said the vehicle then went to the area of 18th Ave. and 9th St. Northeast where the woman parked it, took the keys and left the vehicle on foot to call police.
Teal said responding officers found Young in the vehicle and arrested him. Teal says Young has an active felony arrest warrant.
Young was booked into the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of felony threats, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, felony drug possession and charges connected to the warrant.
Court records indicate Young has been convicted of felony assault of a corrections officer, felony robbery and felony burglary with a dangerous weapon. His first appearance in Olmsted County Court has not yet been scheduled.
