Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Two people are in custody in connection to a drive-by shooting that happened at a busy Rochester intersection over the weekend.

Rochester Police Department Spokesperson Amanda Grayson said officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots early Saturday morning. 

Officers did not initially find evidence that a shooting occurred, however the victim later reported the incident to dispatch and gave officers a more specific location.

Police then found multiple shell casings at the scene.

Police Respond to Early-Morning Drive-By Shooting at Rochester Intersection

The initial calls reporting a shooting came from the area of 41st St. and East Frontage Rd. Northwest around 4 a.m.

Officers then went to the intersection of those roads after getting the second call, which came about 40 minutes after the first reports, and found the shell casings. 

The victim told law enforcement they were stopped behind a vehicle on southbound East Frontage Rd. and 41st St. The front vehicle then made a U-turn and an occupant in the front vehicle fired multiple gunshots at the victim’s vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

No injuries or property damage was reported. The victim told police they recognized the occupants of the suspect vehicle as 27-year-old Torria Sims and 25-year-old Joseph Simmons Jr. 

Officers found and arrested the Rochester residents around 10:45 Saturday morning. Grayson says Sims and Simmons Jr. confessed to carrying out the shooting.

Sims was charged in Olmsted County Court with drive-by shooting towards a person, second-degree assault and terroristic threats.

Conditional bail for each was set at $125,000 Monday morning. They're due back in court later this month.
