Nerstrand, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southern Minnesota man lost his life in a crash Friday afternoon.

Two vehicles were involved in the deadly collision. Both drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicles involved. 

The State Patrol responded to the crash shortly before 1:45 p.m. in Rice County

Nerstrand Man Killed, Kenyon Woman Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Rice County

The deadly crash occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 246 and 170th St. E/Main St. on the outskirts of Nerstad, which is about 11 miles northeast of Faribault.

A westbound GMC SUV and eastbound Ford SUV collided at the intersection, the state crash report says. 

67-year-old Craig Eugene Johnson of Nerstad was driving the Ford. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the State Patrol says.

Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision, according to the state crash report

The State Patrol identified the GMC driver as 44-year-old Amy Elizabeth Christen of Kenyon. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for further care. 

Neither driver was under the influence of alcohol. Christen was also not buckled up, the state crash report says. 

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office Nerstad Fire and Rescue and North Memorial Ambulance also responded to the two-vehicle fatality.
