Fire Wipes Out 2 Buildings at Albert Lea-Area Recycling Center
Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - A fire caused major damage to a recycling facility near Albert Lea on Sunday.
The Freeborn County Sheriff's Office says the fire at the Green Group Reprocessing plant was reported at 4:10 AM. The business is located at 24104 755th Avenue just north of Albert Lea near the town of Bancroft.
A news release says the first deputies to arrive at the scene saw two of the three buildings on the property were fully engulfed in flames. A witness living near the site reported hearing a loud bang just before 4 AM and shortly after that, he started to see flames.
The Sheriff's Office says every fire department in Freeborn County and the Ellendale Fire Department responded to the blaze. The news release says they were able to quickly contain the fire and prevent it from spreading, but two of the three buildings at the site are a complete loss.
The State Fire Marshal's office is assisting with the investigation into the cause of the fire. The Sheriff's Office says the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency was also contacted to see if there are any concerns about the thousands of gallons of water that were used to extinguish the fire.
