High-Speed Chase in Stolen Vehicle Lands Rochester Man in Prison

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - After a warrant for his arrest was issued when he missed a court hearing last month, a former Plainview man was ordered to prison today for a list of convictions connected to a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle earlier this year.

25-year-old José Luis Delgado Junior of Rochester was arrested on May 26 by State Troopers after they resorted to using a pursuit Intervention technique or "PIT maneuver" to end a pursuit that began on southbound Highway 52 at the north edge of Rochester. The criminal complaint in the case says the chase began when a State Trooper responded to reports of an erratic driver speeding at more than 90 mph.

The court document says the speeds during the chase climbed to nearly 120 mph while Delgado wove through traffic, passed vehicles on the shoulder, and nearly crashed into several vehicles. The charges stated that after he was finally stopped, the troopers involved in the pursuit learned the vehicle had been reported stolen.

He was charged with felony counts of fleeing police and receiving stolen property, along with gross misdemeanor reckless driving, and a misdemeanor charge of giving a false name to police. Back in July, Delgado entered guilty pleas to all of the charges.

According to his plea deal, state sentencing guidelines recommended a stayed prison sentence and probation, but an Olmsted County judge today ordered him to serve a 15 month prison sentence in the case. Delgado, who was given credit for 60 days he has already spent in jail, has also been ordered to pay more than $10,000 in restitution.
