Mayo says the decision to expedite the construction of the parking structures is largely based on feedback from staff. Upon completion the new ramps will add 1,500 staff parking spaces.
A news release issued by Mayo Clinic says the new parking spots are planned to be available in two years and are meant to offset the anticipated impact of the construction of the massive downtown Rochester expansion.

Mayo is planning to build a 500 stall parking ramp at its downtown Rochester campus. Mayo’s downtown expansion calls for demolition of the Damon Parking Ramp and the parking garage at the Ozmun complex.
The new ramp, which is set to be built along 2nd St. Southwest on the west end of the Baldwin building and north of the Baldwin Ramp, will be used by staff until construction on the downtown expansion is completed, the news release says.
Construction for both of the ramps is scheduled to start in 2025 and be finished by 2026.

In the meantime, Minnesota’s largest employer is encouraging staff to take advantage of other options to ease their commutes.
A new park-and-ride with Rochester Public Transit service is set to open June 3 at the Hwy. 52 and 75th St. Northwest interchange.
A new Mayo Clinic shuttle lot, which will feature 640 parking spaces and offer shuttle service for St. Mary’s Hospital employees, is set to open in northwest Rochester later this year.
Mayo is also encouraging employees to take advantage of Rochester’s Link Rapid Transit, which is set to open in 2026.
