Minnesotans Warned to Expect Dangerous Heat and Humidity
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester area is included in a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service that covers the south half of Minnesota, the northwest corner of the state, and the entire state of Iowa.
In southeastern Minnesota, the heat advisory will be in effect from 1 PM until 8 PM on Sunday. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures around 90-degrees and heat index readings that could reach the low 100s. Temperatures Sunday night and early Monday are only expected to drop into the low to mid 70s and climb back into the low to mid 90s on Monday.
Even hotter conditions are forecast at the Minnesota State Fair. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, along with portions of south-central and western Minnesota. Forecasters are predicting the heat index will climb to more than 105-degrees on Sunday and Monday.
A cold front is predicted to arrive Monday night and bring with it a possibility of thunderstorms that could become severe. The National Weather Service says, if storms develop, they could produce large hail and damaging winds. The National Storm Prediction Center currently has southeastern Minnesota in an area facing a slight risk of severe weather.
