NWS Adjusts Predicted Snowfall for Rochester Area

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The National Weather Service has adjusted its snowfall prediction for the Rochester area.

The agency issued a Winter Storm Warning that’s scheduled to begin at noon Thursday for Olmsted, Mower, Fillmore, Houston and Winona Counties. It’s set to expire at 6 a.m. on Friday.

The latest forecast is predicting 4-6 inches of snowfall for Rochester. That’s down slightly from the 4-8 inches predicted when the warning was issued on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service office in La Crosse says travel in southeast Minnesota, northern Iowa and southwest Wisconsin could still be difficult Thursday afternoon into Thursday night despite the predicted snow totals trending downward. Communities in Winona county could see 5-8 inches, while predictions for accumulating snow in Fillmore County, northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin range from 4-7 inches.

I am pretty sure that as soon as the word "storm" shows up in the forecast, people in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin are just trained to hop in their cars and go to the store.
