Powerful Winter Storm Set to Pummel Parts of Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A winter weather advisory has been posted for the southeastern corner of Minnesota while most of the rest of the state is under a winter storm warning.
The National Weather Service says the winter weather advisory will be in effect from 10 AM until 7 PM on Sunday, while the winter storm warning, which includes Wabasha and Goodhue Counties, will take effect at 10 AM Sunday and runs through 4 AM on Monday.
The latest forecasting models for the late winter storm that is set to smash into Minnesota on Sunday continues to show the brunt of the storm is expected to hit central and northern Minnesota. Forecasters say the Rochester area could still see 3-6 inches of snow from the powerful system bought warmer air will likely keep much of the precipitation liquid in this region.
As of Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service is predicting a very good chance of snow in the early morning hours of Sunday but that could be followed by a law before the precipitation chances rise to near 100% by the mid to late afternoon on Sunday. By then, the temperatures are forecasts to rise into the mid to upper 30s.
The predicted snowfall totals get much larger west and north of Rochester. The National Weather Service currently says a foot of accumulation is possible across the Twin Cities and parts of central and northern Minnesota could see around 20 inches of new snow. Along the North Shore of Lake Superior where a Blizzard Warning has been issued, forecasters are saying that close to 2 feet of snow is a possibility.
