Second Rochester Teen Sentenced for 2023 Drive-by Shooting

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A teenage man has been given the chance to avoid spending time in prison for a drive-by shooting that occurred in Rochester last summer.

He was one of four people arrested in connection with the August 31 shooting in the 2800 block of Northern Valley Drive Northeast. 

Rochester police indicated up to 30 shots were fired and bullets struck a nearby apartment building and two vehicles, however no injuries were reported. 

The criminal complaint indicates the shooting stemmed from a fight that happened earlier that night at Bowlocity Entertainment Center that was connected to a previous confrontation at Century High School.

A witness identified 18-year-old Raul Rios as one of the shooters. 

In February Rios entered a guilty plea to a second-degree assault charge through a plea agreement that converted a count of drive-by shooting into a felony assault charge. 

On Monday a judge granted Rios's request for a downward departure and sentenced him to a three-year stayed prison sentence and five years probation. 

The other adult suspect charged in the shooting, identified as 18-year-old Lebron Giwa,  previously pleaded guilty to a second-degree assault charge, received a similar sentence in March. 

The two other suspects in the case are juveniles.
