Rochester Man Cited for False Report of Crime on Minnesota Trail
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A suspicious circumstance investigation opened in Rochester earlier this week has resulted in a ticket.

The Rochester Police Department has now cited the man who reported a robbery and stabbing on a trail in the northwestern portion of the city.
Police responded to an apartment complex in the area of West Circle Dr. and Valleyhigh Dr. Northwest to investigate the reported crime around 11:00 Tuesday morning.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of a stab wound to the abdomen.
After taking the man’s report investigators began searching for evidence to confirm the man’s claim.
On Wednesday Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson said officers only found evidence that contradicted the man’s report.
Citation Debunks Rochester Robbery Reported on Douglas Trail
38-year-old Matthew Michael Dahl of Rochester was issued a citation for Falsely Reporting a crime, according to Olmsted County Court records.
Rochester Police previously indicated that Dahl reported being stabbed then robbed on the Douglas Trail north of 41st St. Northwest. He told police the assailant took his belongings and fled on foot after wielding the knife.
Police ticketed Dahl on Wednesday. Falsely reporting a crime is a misdemeanor charge.
Additional information regarding the case has not yet been released. It was under investigation as of Wednesday morning.
