Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Law enforcement has captured a young Rochester man who was suspected of driving a vehicle reported stolen from a dealership across the southern part of Minnesota.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Monday. The alleged burglary and theft was reported to the Rochester Police Department on August 16. 

Upon arriving at the undisclosed car dealership in southeast Rochester, officers were shown surveillance footage of the reported theft and given the missing vehicle’s identification number.

The footage showed the suspect prying open a garage door window then taking a key belonging to the stolen vehicle, the complaint says.

Police were also granted access to the missing vehicle’s GPS, which they used to locate the vehicle and suspect. Later that day, law enforcement found the stolen vehicle in southwestern Minnesota’s Martin County, the charges say. 

Local authorities arrested the suspect, identified as 22-year-old David Joshua Whitney-Vigil, who was subsequently returned to Rochester.

Whitney-Vigil was arraigned Monday on one count of felony third-degree burglary and a count of felony theft. He was released without bail following his first court appearance and is due back in court next month.
